Wind Load

Design wind pressure, Cpe and Cpi, and member loads, applied to your open STAAD.Pro model in one go.

Instant access in SS Workbench.

  • Runs in your browser, nothing to install
  • Invoice on request

Overview

Wind loads on a portal frame building, without the spreadsheet

Wind usually governs a steel or PEB building, and it is the most tedious load to apply: pressure, then Cpe and Cpi for every surface and direction, then tributary widths, then a member load for every member in every load case. Wind Load does all of it in your browser, on the model you have open in STAAD.Pro.

How it fits your work

  • Reads your model. It reads the model you have open in STAAD.Pro and shows it in 3D.
  • Recognises the building. It finds the frames, near and far side walls, roofs and end walls of a 3D building or a 2D frame, and tags them for you. Correct any tag with a click.
  • Calculates to the code. Design wind pressure and pressure coefficients to IS 875 (Part 3) : 2015 or MBMA 2012 (ASCE 7-10), with every step shown.
  • Builds the loads. For each surface and load case: pressure × tributary width × (Cpe − Cpi), with the right sign and direction. The tributary width is suggested from your frame spacing.
  • Lets you check before writing. Every load is listed by load case and drawn on the model before anything goes into STAAD.
  • Applies in one go. All load cases are written to STAAD.Pro together. Append to what the cases already hold, or Replace them.

What you need

STAAD.Pro open on your Windows PC, and STAAD Connector, a small free program that lets the browser talk to STAAD.Pro. Nothing else to install.

How it works

  1. 1

Install STAAD Connector and open your model in STAAD.Pro.

  2. 2

Open Wind Load in SS Workbench and connect: the model appears in 3D.

  3. 3

Calculate the wind pressure and coefficients for your code and site.

  4. 4

Select frames (or an end wall) and click Auto tag; check the tributary width.

  5. 5

Add the loads, review them on the model, and Apply to STAAD.

What it does

  • Design wind pressure to IS 875 (Part 3) : 2015 or MBMA 2012 (ASCE 7-10)
  • Cpe and Cpi for every surface and wind direction, with zone choices
  • Recognises 3D buildings and 2D frames and tags walls, roofs and end walls automatically
  • Suggests tributary width from your frame spacing
  • 8, 6 or 4 wind load cases, each with +Cpi and −Cpi
  • Every load drawn on the 3D model before it goes to STAAD
  • Applies all load cases at once: Append or Replace
  • Your work is saved as a draft, so a closed tab loses nothing

What's new

1.0 beta

  • First release in SS Workbench.
  • IS 875 (Part 3) : 2015 and MBMA 2012 pressure and coefficients.
  • Auto tag for 3D buildings and 2D frames; Append or Replace when applying.
