Overview

Lighter PEB frames, checked against the code

Sizing a pre-engineered building frame means trying section after section: every tapered column and rafter needs a code check, and doing that by hand takes 30 to 60 minutes per frame. Most engineers stop at the first section that passes, not the lightest.

PEB Optimizer is a Windows desktop application that does the search for you. It checks candidate tapered sections against IS 800 or AISC 360, keeps the lightest one that passes, and writes it straight back into your STAAD.Pro model. On real projects it has saved 3–10% or more steel per frame.

What it designs, and what stays with you

  • Optimized by the tool: tapered columns, tapered rafters, the code check on every candidate, and the STAAD round trip.
  • Left to the engineer: connections, base plates and anchor bolts, deflection limits, purlins and girts, hot-rolled members, and sign-off.

A deterministic search, not a guess

The optimizer doesn't estimate with AI. It runs a deterministic search against the code clauses and reports exactly what it checked: the number of candidates, the lightest passing section and the steel saved.

Try it free

PEB Optimizer has its own website with plans, a free trial, a free frame check (send a designed frame, get lighter sections back) and the free STAAD Viewer.

How it works

  1. 1

Download the PEB Optimizer desktop installer from peboptimization.com, install it and sign in to start the free trial.

  2. 2

Open your PEB frame in STAAD.Pro and pick the design code: IS 800 or AISC 360.

  3. 3

Run the optimizer. It checks candidate tapered sections against the code and keeps the lightest one that passes.

  4. 4

Review the result (sections, utilisation and steel saved) and write it back to your STAAD model.

What it does

  • Optimizes tapered columns and rafters of PEB portal frames
  • Checks every candidate section against IS 800 or AISC 360
  • Deterministic search against code clauses, not AI estimates
  • Reads your STAAD.Pro model and writes the lightest passing sections back
  • Shows candidates checked and steel saved for every frame
  • Free trial, plus a free frame check and a free STAAD Viewer
